We use chlorine because it is the most effective agent in the battle against any and all contaminants that lurk in your pool water such as bacteria, sweat, body oil, bird droppings, and anything else that makes its way into the pristine pride of your backyard.
Chlorine effectively removes the conglomeration of unwanted contaminants and surrounds them to mask the odor and harmful exposure to your swimmers who are unaware such things. It also combines with other unnatural contaminants, such as nitrogen and ammonia, now appropriately called “combined chlorine”.
Combined chlorine, also known as “chloramines”, build up in your pool and can create lots of pool water problems. These can easily be tested for with test kits and removed with a good Shock Treatment.
A salt chlorination system is an electronic system that is plumbed into the swimming pool’s plumbing,on the return and after all the components. While there are many different brands and styles of salt chlorination systems each follows the same basic principles. Each is made up of the same basic components and operates primarily the same way. The idea is for this electronic system to pass salt, which is added to the pool water through a series of metal panels that are contained within a salt cell that is added onto the swimming pool’s plumbing. As this salt water is passed through these panels a faint and safe electric charge is passed through the cell’s panels. This electronic charge frees the chloride from the Sodium Chloride (salt) and the chloride alone, now chlorine disperses into the swimming pool water.
The system is controlled as to how much or how little chlorine is produced by a computer board(for pools, average 60% output while for the hot tubs maximum output should be 5% due to their size. Most of these salt chlorination systems are self cleaning, although only to a certain degree and still require regular maintenance and inspection. Most of these salt chlorination systems will also have other functions such as telling you the amount of salt in the water, if the salt cell is dirty and needs cleaning as well as a multitude of other self diagnostic readings.
Also known as a tablet chlorine and bromine feeder, the chlorinator automatically dispenses chlorine into your pool as you manually open the valve. So instead of manually adding chlorine to your pool water or adding chlorine tablets to your floating dispenser or pool skimmer, you add chlorine tablets directly to your chlorinator once per week and you are done. Chlorinators and brominators look like tubes and come in variety of sizes.
The chlorine dissolves inside the chlorinator and disperses into your water at a steady rate once you manually open the valve. That means consistent chlorine levels flow into your pool and fast.
With a little upfront cost and installation, a chlorinator eliminates the need to constantly carry heavy containers around and add chlorine to your water or refill your floating chlorine dispenser. It conveniently allows you to add chlorine to your pool as easy as opening the water valve for few minutes.
